Mohamed is yet to come to terms with the record feat achieved by the Golden Eaglets at the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.The Nigerian cadet side wrote their names in the Guinness Book of records when they defeated hard-fighting Mexico 3-0 in the final at the Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and enter the record books as the first team to win the tournament four times.
The Eaglets previous wins were in China 1985, Japan 1993 and South Korea 2007.
Speaking on how he felt captaining the historic Eaglets to this record feat, a joyful Mohamed, who scored three goals in the tournament, including a thunderous free-kick in the final against
Mexico, said he was proud of the team’s achievements in the United Arab Emirates.
“I am so proud to be a part of this team. This is a proud moment for us because the journey to this great success was difficult but as a team, we overcame all our challenges and today the fruit of our labour is the cup”, said the overlapping right-full back, whose strong defensive player and unbelievable work-rate worked wonders for the Eaglets in the tournament.
He added that he was yet to come to terms with the achievement of the team, stating that “I am still to come to terms with what we have achieved. We wanted to be champions but setting this record has added a new dimension to the whole team. It feels like a dream.
“It has also added pressure on us to move from strength to strengthbecause the eyes of the world will now be on us to achieve more success in the future. Our success here is just the start of new things to come for us”, added the hard-working Mohamed, a truly inspirational captain.
