Miley's Bangerz Album: Get Your First Listen Now!

Snippets of Cyrus' LP are released days before the premiere of her doc, 'Miley: The Movement,' at 10 p.m. ET/PT on YongVip Blog.

Miley Cyrus' Bangerz
Miley Cyrus' Bangerz album is still a week away from release, but you can hear it — or at least 30-second snippets of it — right now.

And here's the thing: Bangerz isn't all brash, despite the pro-party sentiments of first single "We Can't Stop," her now infamous VMA performance, or her stripped-down (in more ways than one) "Wrecking Ball" clip — not to mention the defiant streak she displays in her October 2 MTV documentary "Miley: The Movement." In fact, based on these previews, it's actually quite the opposite.

'Miley: The Movement' Trailer

Take, for example, album opener "Adore You," where Cyrus somberly sings, "Baby, are you listening?/ Wonderin' where you've been all my life," over plaintive pianos and softly shuffling drums. And then there's "My Darlin'," a slowly simmering, broken-heart ballad that features Future; and "Drive," which details a decaying relationship over a cold, coiled electronic beat. They're markedly mature efforts, suggesting that perhaps everything you think you know about Miley may be wrong.

Or maybe not. Because, like the title implies, there's a whole lot than bangs and knocks on the album, too: Like "SMS," where Cyrus raps coy kiss-offs to indecisive lovers over a roiling, raucous Mike WiLL beat — the 30-second snippet doesn't feature Britney Spears' contribution, sadly.

And "4x4," which lives up to guest star Nelly's assessment that it's "kind of a country/hip-hop/pop feel." (It also finds Cyrus rapping about relieving herself.) "Love Money Party" covers those three topics rather succinctly, with Miley delivering sing-song lyrics, and "#Getitright," produced by the omnipresent Pharrell, finds her belting over a beat similar to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

There are also some rebellious moments, like "FU," where Cyrus plays the part of the jilted lover to the hilt, over a theatrical beat, and "Do My Thang," her bid for a self-empowerment anthem. And from a look at the songwriting details, Miley and her production team are borrowing from some of the best: R&B great Ben E. King, songwriting icon Jerry Leiber and even Maureen McDonald (who sang backing vocals on her brother Michael's smash hit "I Feep Forgettin') are sampled on Bangerz.

Based on these sneak peeks, this is going to be an album that surprises plenty of folks, and proves that perhaps you've underestimated Miley up to this point. That's all just conjecture, of course. ... We'll get the full picture when Bangerz is released on October 8.

Christina Aguilera's Fiery 'Hunger Games' Single Art Revealed: Take A Look!

Katniss Everdeen is front and center of the just-released visuals for 'We Remain.'

The cover art for Christina Aguilera's "We Remain"
We got a taste of Christina Aguilera's stirring "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" track last week when the full soundtrack listing was revealed — now, we've got the "We Remain" single art to look at.

A dramatic image, the art shows Katniss Everdeen splayed on the ground — perhaps among the horrors of the arena — looking off into the distance. The sequel to "The Hunger Games" — in which children were forced to fight to the death for the amusement of an oppressive upper class — "Catching Fire" sees victors Everdeen and Peeta Mellark thrown back into the arena, where they will go toe-to-toe with all past Hunger Games winners. Meanwhile, a rebellion brews, instigated by the duo's refusal to kill each other in the last battle royale. The film hits theaters in November.

The photo perfectly matches the strident, wistful nature of Aguilera's track, in which she sings, "Whatever happens here/We remain." A message to fellow fighter and love interest Peeta, perhaps?

The image follows close on the heels of similar single art for Coldplay's "Hunger Games" contribution, "Atlas," which sees Katniss standing boldly on an outcropping of rock, bow and arrow in hand.

The "Catching Fire" soundtrack contains a bevy of other up-and-comers and powerhouses, including the Weeknd, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, the Lumineers and Patti Smith. We wonder which track will be released next and what manner Katniss will adopt in the accompanying art.

Will it be the National's deep, dark song "Lean" (previously titled "Dying Is Easy")? Or Lorde's Tears for Fears cover, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"?

Whatever it is, may the odds ever be in our favor that it drops soon.

'Meatballs' And Metallica Made A Meal Out Of The Box Office

'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2' had the fourth largest September opening ever while 'Metallica: Through the Never' dominated IMAX screens.

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2"
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" made a meal out of the box office with a $35 million debut. While that wasn't enough to beat last year's "Hotel Transylvania," the kid-friendly sequel did score the fourth-largest September opening ever, behind "Transylvania," "Insidious: Chapter 2" and "Sweet Home Alabama."

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

Meanwhile, Metallica's ambitious mix of 3-D concert movie and art film narrative grabbed $1.67 million in 305 IMAX screens. "Metallica Through the Never," from "Predators" director Nimrod Antal, has already beaten the entire theatrical run of 2004's revealing documentary, "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster." The movie features Dane DeHaan in the narrative portions. The 3-D/non-IMAX version will expand nationwide this weekend.

Speaking of expansion, "Meatballs 2" didn't leave many leftovers for the nationwide expansion of "Rush." After a successful debut in New York and Los Angeles, Chris Hemsworth's Formula One racing drama sputtered with just $10.3 million. Despite critical praise, "Rush" had to settle for #3 behind last weekend's #1, "Prisoners."

Hemsworth's fellow Avenger Scarlett Johansson stars opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in "Don Jon," which opened even further down the chain at #5. Gordon-Levitt's writer/directorial debut earned $9 million. "Don Jon" has gotten great reviews just like "Rush," but audiences who saw it gave it a CinemaScore of "C+." That stood in contrast to the "A" CinemaScore garnered by the poorly reviewed comedy "Baggage Claim," which opened at #3 to the tune of $9.3 million despite playing in a couple hundred fewer theaters than "Don Jon."

Metallica weren't the only ones with a music-related flick in specialty release. "Muscle Shoals" played in just one location in New York, where the Sundance documentary grabbed $14,000. Also on the limited release front, Spanish-language comedy "Instructions Not Included" has now made close to $39 million, making it the highest-grossing foreign language film ever in the U.S., now ahead of Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth." The late James Gandolfini's "Enough Said" made $2.1 million as it added 223 theaters over the weekend.

"Metallica Through the Never" will have to give up some IMAX spots to Sandra Bullock's "Gravity," which has set the social media world ablaze among movie reporters and critics. "Through the Never" offers a look at the new Harry Osborn from next year's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Audiences don't know a lot about DeHaan's comic book chops, but the concert film will expand alongside the debut of "Runner Runner," featuring a comic movie veteran. Onetime Daredevil and future Batman Ben Affleck stars in "Runner" alongside Justin Timberlake.

Sharp's new Aquos Xx and Xx mini: ultra-slim bezels and Snapdragon 800

Sharp's new Aquos Xx and Xx mini: ultra-slim bezels and Snapdragon 800
Japanese carrier Softbank has recently announced that it'll be carrying Sharp's two new flagship devices – the Aquos Xx and the Aquos Xx mini. The Japanese company's mobile arm has definitely been struggling, so the adoption of its phones has been largely limited to Japan. As you should know by now, there appears to be no one way to go about conquering the smartphone industry and in the case of Sharp, it sure isn't for lack of a compelling product, at least in view of the newly christened Xx and Xx mini.

Just how compelling is the new Sharp duo, though? Let's take a look

With some small exceptions, the Sharp Aquos Xx reads like a geek's dream. It's got all the cutting edge hardware on board – Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, and a big 5.5-inch, 1080p screen S-CG Silicon TFT screen (instead of the expected IGZO screen). It's an older technology, and in years past, Sharp has justified its use over IGZO panels due to the higher pixel densities it can achieve, not to mention that it's simply cheaper. The rest of the specs include a non-removable 2600mAh battery, and 32GB of microSD-expandable storage.

As far as the design of the Aquos Xx is concerned, we found it to be rather uninspired and kind of thick, though we do have a thing for nearly bezel-less phones – the screen on the Xx accounts for 82% of the device's front. On the back, you've got a 16.3-megapixel CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/1.9, while a far less impressive 1.2-megapixel unit resides at the front. The Sharp Aquos Xx will be made available sometime in December, though pricing is currently unknown.

The 4.5-inch Sharp Aquos Xx mini is a proper sized-down version of its sibling, with a few key exceptions. For example, while the Xx mini also comes packing a punch thanks to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and 2GB of RAM, the display is, again, 1080p, though this time around Sharp has fitted an IGZO LCD panel. In case you're wondering, that adds up to a jaw-droppingly dense 490 ppi. The battery on the Xx mini is similarly embedded, but smaller, at 2120mAh.

Much alike to the Aquos Xx, the design on the Xx mini simply looks dated, not to mention that despite its attractive slim bezels at the front, the device is also on the thick side at 9.8mm. Looking at the camera, the spec sheets points towards a 13.1-megapixel rear unit with the same wide f/1.9 aperture and an identical 1.2-megapixel front shooter. The device is slated for a disappointingly distant February release, while pricing info has been altogether omitted.

Nexus 5 to feature nano SIM card slot, Android 4.4 might mandate nano SIM for all phones

Nexus 5 to feature nano SIM card slot, Android 4.4 might mandate nano SIM for all phonesWe’ve already seen images and specifications for the upcoming new Nexus phone by Google, the Nexus 5, but one tiny little detail was missing - is the new Nexus going to come with a micro SIM card or will Google decide to save as much space as possible and use a nano SIM card like Apple does?

The answer seems to be yes. We’ve spotted a confirmation that the Nexus 5 will indeed feature a nano SIM card on Ukrainian carrier Life :) (yes, the market name includes the cute smiley!).

Nexus 5
Right in the disclaimer page on its website, Life :) says that it will gladly equip you with a nano SIM card for your “iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, Nexus 5 or Android 4.4 smartphone”.

Now, that disclaimer would not have been there if the folks from Life :) did not know about the Nexus 5 sporting a nano SIM indeed. The Nexus 5 is not even on sale yet! So we take this as a confirmation of the support for nano SIM cards in it.

Nexus 5

What’s even more interesting, though, is the fact that the carrier also mentions Android 4.4 KitKat in that list. Does this mean that the next Android version will mandate the nano SIM card standard for all phones? This seems unlikely, but that’s the only logical assumption after you read the disclaimer on the carrier’s website.

Looking back at Android devices, you’d notice that Google definitely has an affinity for nano SIM. Its Motorola handset unit has pushed nano SIM in the latest Motorola Droid series and the Moto X. This makes it all the more likely for the Nexus 5 to come with a nano SIM card.

Rihanna Rocks Fishnets And A 'Marilyn' Wig In 'Pour It Up' Video Teases

Singer goes blonde in new stills from the clip for her Mike Will Made It-produced single.

Rihanna on the set of her video for "Pour It Up" Rihanna's getting her glam on. In new teasers for her upcoming "Pour It Up" video, the singer rocks a short, Marilyn Monroe-inspired wig and sexy fishnets.

The Mike Will Made It-produced single is the latest from her Unapologetic album. And over the weekend, RiRi posted several stills from the clip, including two where she wears little more than a lavender bodysuit and white stilettos.

In another set of photos, Rihanna pairs the lingerie-inspired romper with pink eyebrows and glittering jewels. The "Diamonds" singer is in true bad-girl form as she smokes and drinks in one look.

While there's no release date for the video, Rihanna seems to have had a change of directors. According to reports, she had shot one version of the "Pour It Up" clip with director Vincent Haycock before they went their separate ways on the project. No word yet on whether this will be an entirely new video. (A rep for the singer hadn't responded to MTV News' request for further information at press time.)

In between posting video stills, Rihanna also made some time to pay homage to Walter White. She also posted several images related to "Breaking Bad," which celebrated its series finale Sunday night.

Rihanna has a busy season ahead. After appearing alongside A$AP Rocky in his "Fashion Killa" video, she'll be prepping the release of the "Pour It Up" visual. The star is also set to continue on her Diamonds world tour even as her "Styled to Rock" series premieres in November on Bravo.

The show was originally slated to air on the now-defunct Style network, but it has now been confirmed to air on Bravo. The series' guest judges include Miley Cyrus, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kid Cudi, Nervo, Khloe Kardashian Odom, Naya Rivera, Big Sean and Ne-Yo.

Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience - 2 Of 2: Fans' Early Reviews Are In!

Fans are treated to an early listen of Justin's new album and tell MTV News that they can't stop hitting repeat.

Justin Timberlake All eyes are on Justin Timberlake as the megastar gears up for the September 30 release date of The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2, the follow-up to the massively successful 20/20 Experience.

Following the release of lead single "Take Back The Night," the new track "TKO" and closing out this year's iHeartRadio music festival, JT continued his promotional tour by taking over Los Angeles' Hollywood Boulevard for his "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" outdoor concert. Timberlake stopped by Tuesday night where he performed new music and old favorites to thousands of screaming, adoring fans, who waited all day for a chance to see the singer in action.

Fans React To Justin Timberlake's '20/20 Experience Part 2 of 2'

Luckily, fans were treated again to an early peek at the new album when it started streaming in full on iTunes, and already fans, are raving about the new set of jams.

"I'm speechless. It's so amazing," said a clearly excited Katie Shade. "Justin continues to keep doing what he does best. I can't wait for it to come out completely. It's one of those albums that you can put it in your car and hit repeat. You don't need anything else on your iPod."

Robin Quintanilla, who previewed the new album for friends at work, found reactions were similarly positive. "Everyone liked it, which is something you don't always get, some people will have comments. But everyone liked it, the guys and the girls," she said.

Fans also loved the more eclectic, upbeat sound that this album features. "It's a bit more upbeat, which I liked." What Megan Zecher likes best about the album is that "It's a little bit more a wide genre of songs and music."

While fans might be disappointed with the previous seven-year delay between albums, they were clearly pleased at what Justin has to offer. "He did take a long hiatus but he did come back and I think he's come back with a whole new type of music and he's doing great," Quintanilla added.

And while Part 1 and Part 2 of the 20/20 Experience might have similar sounding titles, the albums themselves are sonically different. "It's completely different from his last one but it's like he's progressing, he's getting better and maturing in his music," Quintanilla said.

You can no longer downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6

You can no longer downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6After a significant period of testing, Apple's overhauled iOS 7 has made the move and gone public and official. As with any major software rework, there was no shortage of bugs (some bigger than others), nor was there a lack of complaints about the new look of the OS. At PhoneArena we're overall happy with the new iteration of iOS – it sure is a work in progress and needs some tweaking, but the change was definitely needed, and for the better.

As always, however, there are those who don't quite like the new OS and want to revert back to iOS 6. Whether their concerns are strictly related to the new design, or they simply suddenly found out just how old their iPhone 4 is getting (the oldest iPhone to support the new OS), due to the significantly more animation-heavy iOS 7, they're simply not given a voice. Said more explicitly, in a typical Apple fashion the plug has been pulled on iOS 6 officially, meaning that whatever ways you could find to revert back will no longer work. That's not to say you can't revert back to it at all, it's just that Cupertino has stopped signing older firmware, meaning that you won't have access to essentials, such as the iTunes store.

Some of you will be quick to demonize Apple for this, and we fully get it – we're, after all, enthusiastic proponents of choice. On the other hand, Apple has traditionally kept OS fragmentation to a minimum thanks to a strong hand approach like this -- a good thing for a number of reason, like an overall better and more targeted support for our iPhones.

Home › News › Video shows still images of a Space Gray colored Apple iPad 5 Video shows still images of a Space Gray colored Apple iPad 5

Video shows still images of a Space Gray colored Apple iPad 5While Apple has yet to announce a date when it will introduce the Apple iPad 5 and the Apple iPad mini 2, a video shows off the casing of what allegedly is a Space Gray colored version of the next full-sized Apple tablet. Using a "crawl" reminiscent of any Star Wars opening, we are also told to expect a version of the 9.7 inch slate dressed up in silver. It would make sense for Apple to unify its color options this year between the Apple iPhone 5s and the next iteration of the iPad. The former is now available in gold, silver and Space Gray. We haven't seen any leaks showing a gold iPad, so it would appear that silver and Space Gray will be the choices for buyers of the new iPad.

Considering that the Apple iPhone 5s and Apple iPhone 5c have just been launched last Friday, we wouldn't expect to see the two expected iPads to be introduced until sometime next month. The latest buzz around the barber shop had October 15th as a possible unveiling date.

The fifth generation iPad is expected to have taken its design cues from the Apple iPad mini with a thinner, slimmer look featuring more rounded corners, stereo speakers and a two piece volume rocker. Inside, a more powerful A7X processor will drive the slab. The sequel to the Apple iPad mini should also feature the updated silicon and a Retina display screen.

"Pink Star" diamond could fetch record $60 million, Sotheby's says

A model displays the 'Pink Star' 59.60 carat oval cut pink diamond at Sotheby's in Geneva September 25, 2013. REUTERS/Ruben Sprich(Reuters) - A huge and rare pink diamond could fetch more than $60 million at auction in November as collectors chase exceptional pieces in a strong international jewelry market, Sotheby's said on Wednesday.

The "Pink Star", which weighs 59.60 carats, is the most valuable diamond offered at auction, it said, showing the oval stone with the top grading of vivid pink amid tight security at a luxury hotel.

"It is full of fire and light. If it sells it will be a record price for any gemstone so far at auction," David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's jewelry division in Europe and the Middle East, told Reuters in Geneva, where it will be the star lot of the November 13 sale.

"The top end in all categories in auction prices are very, very strong. People are seeking the very rare, the exceptional, the outstanding. This stone is," he said.

The current record is held by the "Graff Pink", a 24.78 carat fancy intense pink diamond bought by Laurence Graff, the London-based jeweler known as "The King of Diamonds", at a 2010 auction for 45.44 million Swiss francs ($45.75 million then).

The "Pink Star" was cut and polished from a 132.5 carat rough diamond mined by De Beers somewhere in Africa in 1999, according to Sotheby's, which said it had no information on the exact geographic origin.

The stone, mounted on a ring, was first sold in 2007 and the current owner remains anonymous, a Sotheby's spokeswoman said.

Eric Valdieu, a former Christie's jewel expert now of Valdieu Fine Arts, recalls seeing the "Pink Star" displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington in 2003.

"The buyers of a stone like this are very few, international fortunes in Latin America, Asia or the Middle East," he said.

Rival Christie's is offering three jewels from the collection of Bolivian tycoon Simon Itturi Patino among the pieces going under the hammer at its Geneva sale on November 12.

The pieces, including a 1930s emerald and diamond necklace by French jeweler Cartier estimated at $7-$10 million, feature rare gems and embody the taste of "The King of Tin" who founded the family dynasty, the private auction house owned by French billionaire Francois Pinault said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The Patino family had extraordinary things, objects which dealers and private collectors will go after with gusto," Valdieu said.

TomorrowWorld, Here We Come! Nicky Romero Dishes On Why America Is 'Ready'

For the first time, TomorrowWorld is coming to Atlanta, Georgia, so your favorite DJs tell us why we should be pumped.

By YoungVip

Nicky Romero This weekend marks the end of the summer music festival season, but the beginning of what's sure to be one of the biggest dance festivals in the world. The appropriately named TomorrowWorld will come Stateside for the first time ever — following in the world-renowned footsteps of its Belgian predecessor, Tomorrowland.

TomorrowWorld is the first European-turned-American festival ever, but seems long overdue for the rate festival culture is exploding onto the U.S. dance scene. Fans are definitely excited, but MTV News caught up with some of the audience's favorite performers to hear what they had to say.

TomorrowWorld Makes Its American Debut

Producer/DJ Nicky Romero has complete confidence, saying, "I think the American people are really ready for something like this, a European festival coming to America... I think it's going to be just as good." Bro Safari described the crossover as simply "flawless."

Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, will host the inaugural festival and 30,000 fans will camp at "Dreamville." To dubstep master Excision, one of the 300 performers at the event, the setup is really what makes this festival stand out from the others. "I think it will cross over really well. The biggest thing Tomorrowland did so well was their stages weren't just about production, they had amazing production, but also it was about art and showcasing what you can really do."

With tickets 90 percent sold out, the festival is sure to be packed and energized all day every day, delivering on the full TomorrowWorld experience. "I know a lot of my friends are open to an adventure for the weekend," DJ duo GTA explained to us. If their friends will be there, yours probably will too!

Alcatel One Touch Evolve, One Touch Fierce smartphones coming to T-Mobile

Alcatel One Touch Evolve, One Touch Fierce smartphones coming to T-MobileT-Mobile just announced that it is adding a couple of low-cost offerings to its extensive Android lineup. These are the Alcatel One Touch Fierce and One Touch Evolve smartphones, both of which are to be made available in the coming weeks.

Out of the two, the Alcatel One Touch Fierce is the more capable handset, powered by Android 4.2. Among its strongest assets is the MT6589M SoC with its 1.2GHz quad-core processor, so we're expecting the smartphone's performance to be at least acceptable. On the front of the device we have a fairly large, 4.5-inch screen with a resolution fitting for an affordable phone – 540 by 960 pixels. Alcatel has included a 5MP camera with LED flash, and a front-facing VGA cam is present as well. Further specs include 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage with microSD card support, and a 1800mAh battery capable of delivering 8 hours of talk time. While the phone is advertised as 4G-capable, it has a 21Mbps HSPA+ radio, not an LTE one.

Further down the hierarchy stands the Alcatel One Touch Evolve, which is a low-end Android 4.1 smartphone. The 4-inch, 480x800 pixel display seems passable, but the 1GHz MediaTek MT6575 chip could prove too weak to deliver a smooth user experience, especially when only 512MB of RAM are present. We also see a 5MP camera on its back, 4GB of storage under the hood, a microSD card slot, 7.2Mbps HSPA radio, and a battery rated for 13 hours of talk time on a single-charge.

Both the Alcatel One Touch Fierce and One Touch Evolve will be priced very low, making them suitable for buyers on a budget. The One Touch Fierce will be offered with the T-Mobile Simple Choice plan, costing $19.99 down, followed by 24 monthly payments of $6. The One Touch Evolve goes even lower, priced at $27.99 down, with 24 payments of $3 afterwards when paired with the same plan. Both handsets will be available at select T-Mobile stores nationwide on October 5 and online soon after.

Google knows every Wi-Fi password entered from an Android device

Google knows every Wi-Fi password entered from an Android deviceHere's a disturbing story. A published report on Saturday says that Google keeps a log of every Wi-Fi password ever entered into an Android device. According to the story, the list is not for human consumption which still doesn't take away from the idea that your Wi-Fi password is sitting inside a file at Mountain View. Android phones since Android 2.2 have sent back to Google the Wi-Fi password as a default setting on the handset.

Since it probably went right by most Android users, let's look at two builds. In Android 2.3.4, go to Settings and then Privacy. Om HTC models, Google gets your Wi-Fi password from an option called "Back up my settings," while on a Samsung device the naughty option reads "Back up my data." The unfortunate thing is that nowhere is Wi-Fi mentioned. The description reads "Back up current settings and application data."

In Android 4.2, go to Settings and then Backup and reset. The option is called "Back up my data," and the description for it reads "Back up application data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers".

If you want your mind boggled, consider that we are not talking about one Wi-Fi network at home. We are talking about every Wi-Fi network your Android phone logged into including the McDonald's down the street, or that Adult Film store that used to be a PhotoHut down the street. While Android users can opt out, all of this information could be turned over to law enforcement officials if Google is compelled to do so.

Did you ever buy a new Android phone, enter your Google account information, and the new phone instantly hooked up with your router? Google can decrypt the stored Wi-Fi passwords with just a Gmail username and password.

It might be too late for your original password, but it is not too late to opt out of Google's storing of your Wi-Fi password. Once you've done that, you should change your Wi-Fi password. And if this whole thing shocks you, you might be a little too trusting of those who hold your wireless life in their hands.

Nirvana's In Utero At 20: A Contrarian Classic

On the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's album, Bigger Than The Sound celebrates its uncompromised excellence.

Nirvana's In Utero album cover Nirvana never wanted to be the biggest band in the world; things just sort of worked out that way. But in 1993, they thought they had found a way to remedy that: release In Utero.

As you're probably aware, despite their best efforts, they didn't really succeed at sabotaging their careers (In Utero debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and has been certified platinum five times over), though you've certainly got to give them credit for trying. Because 20 years after it hit stores — a deluxe anniversary reissue is set to be released on September 24 — the album stands as a contrarian landmark, the kind of thing only a band like Nirvana would ever dream of making in the first place.

Nirvana Break Down The Sound Of 'In Utero'

From Kurt Cobain's corrosive yowls on "Milk It" and "Tourette's" to the decidedly non-Nevermind sensibilities of "All Apologies" and "Dumb," it's an album that sought to alienate both sides of their fanbases — the mainstream and the underground — and confound everyone in between. They hired notoriously surly sonic naturalist Steve Albini to produce it, then balked when folks at their label suggested they sand down some of his rough edges. Cobain put a collage of fetuses and stray body parts on the back cover, and thought of calling the album I Hate Myself And Want To Die. The disc itself features a photo of a man in lingerie. There's a song on it called "Rape Me." And the video for first single "Heart-Shaped Box" features a young girl parading around in Ku Klux Klan robes.

To call In Utero challenging would be an understatement. In many ways, it seemed like Cobain never even wanted to make the album, perhaps because he knew he couldn't win. The punks and purists had largely abandoned him at this time, and the shirtless masses that packed into arenas to see his band seemed to miss the point entirely. So he decided to embrace his situation: if the scene kids were already accusing him of selling out, well, then he was going to hire Albini — their most vaunted producer — to helm his record. And if the jocks were still going to like his band, well, he was going to make them feel real uncomfortable when they were buying his album.

Nirvana - "Heart-Shaped Box (Director's Cut)"

Ultimately, he relented slightly, allowing producer Scott Litt to re-work a pair of songs, and changing the title of "Rape Me" to placate nervous retailers. But other than that, Cobain's will won out, and 20 years later, In Utero remains one of the most uncompromising major-label rock albums in history, a testament to his will and determination and desire to blow it all up and disappear. He explores his fascination with Beatles-esque harmonies, plays with concepts of gender and dominance, and rails against all the trappings of success. It's a thrilling, vivid listen, one that reveals a portrait of an artist being pulled in several directions at once, unsure and unwilling of which way to go, angry and tormented yet, ultimately, unafraid.

It's impossible to think of an album like this being made today, and not just because there are no bands of Nirvana's caliber currently working. The shareholders would riot. The boardrooms would be set ablaze. There's too much to lose and not enough to go around. The reasons are endless ...which is why we should appreciate In Utero even more.

At the height of their fame, with the world watching and waiting, Nirvana decided to do things their way, and they never wavered. Call that commendable, or perhaps call it crazy, just don't call it compromised. Because this band never did that.

Rihanna Recorded A 'Monster Hook,' And We Just Might Know Who It's For...

YOUNGVIP News takes a few guesses at who gets Rih Rih's vocals.
Rihanna eight years at the end of 2013, but we do know that she's making music — for one of her "favorite artists."

On Wednesday (September 11), she tweeted, "Just left the studio... Recorded a #monster hook for one of my favorite artists! And that's all I can give you..."

The mysterious tweet — not surprisingly — rallied her Rihanna Navy, who were feverishly guessing who the artist could be. Predictions included Nicki Minaj, A$AP Rocky, and Drake, to name a few. We here at MTV News compiled a list of who we think Rihanna could be collaborating with, and even added some odds for you betting types.
Lady Gaga
Since Rihanna tweeted the word "monster," some automatically assumed she could only be talking about the Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga. Even though her Little Monsters have heard a majority of the ARTPOP at the iTunes Festival, there may still be some time to add in an extra track, or maybe even a remix to "Sex Dreams," which fans are hoping will be the next single.
Odds: 20 to 1

Kanye West
Another logical person that Rihanna could be working is "Monster" rapper himself, Kanye West. The two were rumored to have met up in New York last month and both were spotted during New York Fashion Week, which could have given them time to talk about a possible collaboration. They've worked together several times in the past, most recently on Rihanna's "Diamonds" remix, so it might be time for her to return the favor on that rumored Yeezus remix EP.
Odds: 15 to 1
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj had a stand-out verse on West's "Monster" track, which made us think that Minaj just might be the artist Rihanna could be working with. Minaj recently Instagrammed a picture of the two at Alexander Wang's New York Fashion Week after-party. Queen Barb, who told MTV News back in April that she was going to begin working on her next album "very very soon," has worked with Rihanna when the two hooked up the single, "Fly" off Minaj's Pink Friday album.
Odds: 5 to 1

Britney Spears
Back in 2011, when Rihanna asked her Navy who she should collaborate with, Britney Spears was a popular choice. The two later made fans' wishes come true when they teamed up on the sexy remix of her hit "S&M," and with Spears gearing up to release new music with her single, "Work Bitch," it seems to be a perfect time for the two to reconnect for Spears' upcoming album.
Odds: 10 to 1

Katy Perry
Katy Perry's album may just be a little over a month away, but that doesn't mean there isn't still some time to squeeze in a collaboration with her best friend, Rihanna, with whom she has never worked. Perry recently played 10 of Prism's songs for critics in New York, but there is still some mystery behind the three tracks that will be featured on the deluxe edition.
Odds: 5 to 1

Of Monsters and Men
We realize the chances of Rihanna collaborating with Of Monsters and Men are extremely slim, but she did tweet out the word, "monster," and who knows, since their debut single, "Little Talks" turned out to be a hit, maybe the indie/folk band are now "one of her favorite artists"?
Odds: 1000 to 1

2 Chainz Pleads 'I Don't Do Anything Illegal' After Arrest

The rapper says he showed police his guns during the Oklahoma snafu, saying 'I probably let my guard down.'
2 Chainz on "RapFix Live"The pressure of avoiding the sophomore jinx is stressful enough, but for 2 Chainz, who dropped his highly anticipated second solo LP, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time on Tuesday, that frustration reached a boiling point last month when his tour bus was stopped and towed and he was arrested by Oklahoma City Police after a nine-hour standoff.

"It's a certain feeling of frustration or being overwhelmed," Tity Two Necklaces said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday. "When you're an entertainer like myself, my schedule is basically online, it's for anybody to look at from booking agents, to your mom, to criminals, the police, anybody. We give up a lot of privacy."

2 Chainz Addresses His Recent Legal Woes

Authorities seized two semi-automatic pistols, a 12-gauge shotgun, a partial box of ammunition, prescription painkillers, marijuana residue and unprescribed hydrocodone and Flexeril from the bus, which had just left Chesapeake Energy Arena where Chainz performed for the America's Most Wanted Tour.

"We told them the guns were there," Chainz said. "Of course I have armed security around, because when somebody tried to kill me, the police didn't stop my bus then and say 'we smell gunpowder in your hair.' For a minute, everything was going so good that I probably let my guard down and got so relaxed."

The rapper born Tauheed Epps can continue to relax, though, because he's already getting rave reviews on his new 17-track project, which is led by the chart-topping single, "Feds Watching," featuring Pharrell Williams, and, of course, he was never charged for the legal snafu in OKC.

"I don't do anything illegal," he said. "You're not gonna find a kilo on my bus. You're not gonna find an unregistered reason. I went to work all last year. I paid taxes. I did everything I was supposed to do. So maybe people need to start aiming at some criminals. For me, I'm cold turkey on all criminal activities. I don't wanna do anything criminal. It's just about wasting your time, my time and taxpayers' money."

In addition to B.O.A.T.S. II, which also features Ma$e, T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Drake, with production from Mike Will Made It and Drumma Boy, Chainz also dropped a new cookbook, "Meal Time," to help fans whip up quick and healthy meals on the go.

Apple iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c: all you need to know

Apple iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c: all you need to knowAfter several months worth of attention were paid as tribute towards the upcoming iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, we finally saw Apple take the drapes off of its two new arrivals just a few days ago.

Now, depending on where you stand in the whole Apple against the world nonsense, your take on the new iPhones will vary, sometimes wildly. Which is to say, that while facts are facts, both sides will have their own truth – there are those who are already whispering doom, claiming Apple has lost its mojo, while others blindly “see” the usual appeal and quality we've come to expect from Cupertino. If you fall into either one of these two 'categories', it's probably unlikely that the round-up below will affect your opinion much. But those of you who are willing to roll up their sleeves, get dirty, and genuinely want to see the new iPhones for what they really are: you have come to the right place.

Significantly better performance, courtesy of the new Apple-designed 64-bit A7 chip, camera improvements , and a Home key doubling up as a fingerprint scanner – those are the most notable hardware changes in the new, more evolved iPhone 5s. Looking at the iPhone 5c, we see a phone that is the harbinger of a strategy shift at Apple's HQ, though what Cupertino's exact thinking behind the polycarbonate near copy of the iPhone 5 was, remains to be seen. In terms of software, both devices are coming with iOS 7 out of the box, which marks an important step for Apple, a first since the concept of iDevices popped into Steve Jobs mind – this is the first real revamp of the OS, and it brings along a load of new goodies.

Britney Spears' 'Work Bitch' Reporting For Duty Next Week

Brit announces she's shooting the video for the track with 'Scream and Shout' director Ben Mor.

Britney Spears Let the Britney takeover begin! Just days after posting shots of herself on set of her music video for her brand-new single "Work Bitch," Britney Spears took to Twitter on Tuesday (September 10) night to reveal that her brand-new single will premiere next Monday at 6 p.m. ET.

And not only did the pop titan reveal a premiere date, but she also dished a bit about the clip for the track. "EPIC EPIC 3 days shooting #WorkBitch in the desert with Ben Mor," she tweeted. "Thanks for braving the heat with me. #NextLevelVideo :)"

Rumbling of a new Spears single began just a few weeks ago when the pop titan's official website was revamped with a mysterious countdown clock with a tagline that reads: all eyes on me. It's no coincidence that the countdown will end just in time for the singer's appearance on "Good Morning America."

Little is known about the lead single from Spears' new album, but will.i.am collaborator Antony Preston has revealed via Twitter that the singer co-wrote the single. It's also rumored that the tune will feature a sample from none other than Ru Paul. With a tweet from the drag icon himself, it's only natural that one could speculate.

Walmart introduces smartphone trade-in plan

Walmart introduces smartphone trade-in plan
Beginning on September 21st, Walmart will start to accept smartphone trade-ins just in time for the expected launch of the next iteration of the Apple iPhone. Smartphone owners will be allowed to turn in their current handset and depending on condition and model, they will receive a instant credit of $50 to as much as $300 toward the purchase of a new phone.
The program will be run by CExchange and the smartphone owner will have to answer a series of questions to help determine how much his trade is worth. The program is available at 3,600 participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations nationwide. Some of the examples mentioned by Walmart included: $300 for an Apple iPhone 5, $175 for a Samsung Galaxy S III and $52 for a Samsung Galaxy S II. Apple recently started accepting trades at Apple Stores and both Apple and Walmart are competing against third party companies like Gazelle.

"Smartphones have become a part of our customers' everyday lives and as new devices launch more frequently, trade-in programs are becoming more popular. More and more, customers are choosing where they purchase new smartphones based on where they'll get the best value for their trade-ins. Our goal is to give them more value for their old devices and the lowest price for their new one – all part of our promise to be the best destination for wireless."-Steve Bratspies, executive vice president, general merchandise, Walmart U.S.

Walmart customers interested in a trade-in should head to the electronics department of their local store where the value of the trade will be applied against the current low Walmart prices such as the Apple iPhone 5, available for just $98, and the Samsung Galaxy S4, priced at just $138. Both of those prices are based on a signed two-year contract from Verizon, AT&T or Sprint.

Daniel Radcliffe Looks Horny In Clip From New Film

Daniel Radcliffe in 'Horns'
Daniel Radcliffe is coming back to the fantasy genre, but "Horns" isn't the cheerfully magical world of Hogwarts. It is dark and strange.

The new film from director Alexandre Aja just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to favorable reviews, and now, those of us not lucky enough to be in the Great White North for the fest are getting our first look at "Horns."

The first clip just debuted over at Collider, and it introduces us to the bizarre world that was dreamt up by author Joe Hill.

In "Horns," Radcliffe plays Ig Perrish, a man whose girlfriend dies under mysterious circumstances, and the morning after her death, he wakes up with literal horns sprouting out the top of his head. But that's not the only thing new about Ig. He also has the ability to make people reveal their darkest inner secrets.

Daniel Radcliffe Gets 'Burned Alive' In 'Horns'

In the clip, Radcliffe's character goes looking for a man played by David Morse, and finds him on the other end of a shotgun.

MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with Radcliffe about the role at Sundance 2013, just after he had wrapped on "Horns," and he looked back on the whole experience with a laugh. "A few weeks after we finished I woke up one morning thinking, 'What was that? What was that film I just did?'" he said. "It's so crazy. I feel like I have less concept of what it's going to be now than when I first started, which is bizarre, but it's very exciting."

"Horns" does not currently have a release date, but expect news out of TIFF soon.

Seagate unveils a tiny 500 GB drive for tablets: mucho storage for less

Seagate unveils a tiny 500 GB drive for tablets: mucho storage for lessSeagate is addressing the challenges of limited mobile device storage head-on, first with the 1 TB Wireless Plus, now taking the wraps off a 500 GB hard drive built for incorporating into tablets.

The Ultra Mobile HDD is just 5mm thin, which makes it suitable for even the slimmest tablets like the Xperia Z. In that record slender waistline, the company managed to fit the hard drive, and wrap it in a shock-absorbing chassis, complete with motion sensors and thermal monitoring for preventing damages during falls or prolonged usage.

Seagate's Dynamic Data Driver software takes care of the other obstacle before installing regular HDDs in tablets - power consumption. The Ultra Mobile HDD demand when coupled with 8 GB of internal memory is equal to that of a 64 GB flash storage, claims Seagate, and the read/write performance equal to that of 16 GB flash storage, all for a lower cost, and with 7x the larger storage capacity.

Sounds like a winning combination for Windows 8 tablets like the slim and light Sony Vaio Tap 11, for example, whose 64 GB of storage are surely not going to be enough to install serious legacy apps, despite that the system supports them. The Ultra Mobile HDD also weighs just three ounces, so OEMs are bound to take notice of this announcement.

Bruno Mars to headline 2014 Super Bowl halftime show

(Reuters) - Grammy-winning singer Bruno Mars was named on Sunday as the headliner for the halftime show at next year's Super Bowl.

Mars and his band, The Hooligans, were introduced before hundreds of screaming fans at the Fox NFL Sunday broadcast, which was held live from Times Square in New York City to kick off the first full weekend of professional football.

"It's just an honor," Mars said. "We just got off tour so being able to come to New York City and announce this right now is incredible. We're celebrating, we're celebrating for sure."

The National Football League says the Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched music event in the world. It says more than 110.5 million viewers saw last year's show featuring R&B superstar Beyonce.

Next year, Super Bowl XLVIII will be held on February 2 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Mars, 27, whose style ranges from pop to reggae, will join a roster of music legends who have headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, including Bruce Springsteen, Prince and Madonna.

Asked if he planned any surprises, Mars said: "It's five months from now, so I got a couple of phone calls to make."

The Hawaiian born singer, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, is a 14-time Grammy nominee and has sold more than 115 million singles worldwide.

He is currently on a 91-city tour, a statement from the National Football League said.

Billboard magazine says Mars scored his first five No. 1 hits on the ‘Hot 100' chart faster than any male recording artist since Elvis Presley.

Watch Elizabeth Olsen Squirm While Getting Grilled On Scarlett Witch/'Avengers 2' Rumors

"I've been rumored about lots of things," the actress told YOUNGVIP at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Tom Felton and Elizabeth OlsenToronto--In a year filled with a new "Star Wars" film and the debut of Ben Affleck as Batman, all eyes are still on "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the sequel to the third highest-grossing film of all time that's set to assemble in theaters in the summer of 2015. In addition to the rest of the returning super team, a few new recruits will be added: Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch--the latter of which is rumored to be played by Elizabeth Olsen.
YOUNGVIP News' Josh Horowitz got to grill Olsen about her possible secret identity while the actress was promoting her new film "Kill Your Darlings" at the Toronto International Film Festival. As with any Marvel movie, the actress could not divulge just how deep her ties run to the in-development sequel.

Elizabeth Olsen Plays Coy Over 'Scarlet Witch' Rumors

"I've been rumored about lots of things," she said. The actress, most known for indie dramas like "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Liberal Arts," did reveal that the genre does hold interest for her, as she believes it holds interest for every actor.

"I grew up loving comic books and sci-fi," explained Olsen. "I think that's how everyone's first love for movies [develops], [by enjoying that] kind of entertainment as kids. I think those movies are great. I'd love to do something like that."

The Marvel films have attracted similarly dramatic minded actors in the past. Olsen would fit right in with the current Avengers, which include the Academy Award nominated Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson, a former Woody Allen ingenue.

Olsen did resist the urge to further rumors of her involvement and kept quiet about whether or not she's been doing her homework on the Scarlet Witch. "I never read [her appearances]. I just know comic books from my brother. No, that's not a character that I'm really well aware of until, you know, the internet."

If you're still scratching your head about the character Olsen may be portraying in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," here are five essential facts about the Scarlet Witch.

"Kill Your Darlings" opens in theaters on October 16th.

150 million use Instagram; ads coming in the next year

150 million use Instagram; ads coming in the next year

Instagram now has 150 million users with only 40% of those inside the U.S. A story in the Wall Street Journal on Sunday revealed the stats and also noted that 128 million of those were added after the site was acquired by Facebook. 50 million people have been added in just the past 6 months alone. Instagram now has 50 employees, up from the 4 it used to employ when it was only available to iOS users and had just 7 million users. But the app is now on iOS and Android and Windows Phone users have been dying for an official Instagram app.

One of the employees, 35 year old Emily White, has come over from the Facebook side with a mandate to monetize the site. The last time Instagram announced that it was monetizing the site, things backfired. Within days, the ToS was changed leading to an uproar from users who worried that their pictures were being sold to companies. Instagram backtracked on the ToS change and a class action suit against the social networking, picture sharing site was dismissed.

"Theoretically, [Instagram] could be making hundreds of millions of dollars today, but they would need a big sales force and they would risk polluting the environment."-Brian Wieser, analyst, Pivotal Research Group

But make no mistake about it. Ads are coming to Instagram within the next year, according to White. Her job is to figure out how to do it without shaking things up. "We want to make money in the long term, but we don't have any short-term pressure," see says. Checking out all of the major corporations with Instagram accounts, White has started meeting with heavyweights like Ford and Coca-Cola. The site is full of the demographics that companies crave, but White's challenge is to make sure that ads don't clutter the site. One idea is to make a separate page, like the Discover page, which shows different popular pictures and video, or the Search feature which shows off different themes. Allowing an advertiser to show off images that link back to a company's website might be a tasteful way to monetize Instagram.

Home News by technology BBM for iPhone submitted two weeks ago, awaiting App Store approval BBM for iPhone submitted two weeks ago, awaiting App Store approval

BlackBerry has revealed its new Messenger app for iPhone was submitted for Apple's approval two weeks ago, indicating the app could arrive at any time.

The news comes from the Twitter account of BlackBerry's Alex Kinsella who, on Friday afternoon, admitted the company was now playing the waiting game as Apple takes a peek at the completed app.

He wrote: "Just in case we forgot to mention, BBM for iPhone was submitted for review 2 weeks ago. #waiting #BBM4ALL"

An online app tracker from Shiny Development claims the average review time for iOS apps is currently only four days, so perhaps Apple is making its old rival sweat before offering a thumbs up.
Before September ends

BBM, which helped BlackBerry handsets stay popular long after the decline set in at Waterloo, is coming to Android and iOS as part of an effort to make the app a universal tool for for all.

The company announced the expansion plans at its BlackBerry World event back in May and all indications suggest the app will drop on both platforms by the end of September. In the case of the iPhone app, maybe sooner.

Wireless phone charging coming to new cars

Smartphone junkies, take notice: Your next car may be equipped with wireless cell phone charging to keep your device fully powered up on the road, with no cords to clutter up the car.

Depending on the make and model, the technology may even fully integrate your phone with the car's audio system and touchscreen, allowing voice access to your phone's music and address book or quick access through the dashboard screen.

To use, drivers simply place their phone on a charging pad built into the car's console or covered storage compartment. The pad includes a transmitter that sends an electromagnetic signal picked up by a receiver in the phone. The process is automatic, and LED readouts indicate the battery level while the phone is charging. The system can automatically switch on and off as needed to maintain a charge.

First appearing as an option on the redesigned 2013 Toyota Avalon, the technology is called Qi (pronounced "chee"), and it will be available on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee due this fall. Promoted by the Wireless Power Consortium, a group of electronics companies and suppliers who hope to see Qi become an international wireless charging standard, the group says to expect Qi in more new models soon. (Chevrolet announced a similar product was in development for the Volt.)

Qi is being built into some new phones now, including models from HTC and LG. The Wireless Consortium says more are on the way, and adaptive sleeves or accessories can add Qi to a number of other popular phones including the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4.

We see this technology as both a convenience and a potential way to reduce driver distraction depending upon how carmakers integrate it into a vehicle. If the charging pad is located in a compartment hidden out of sight, for example, and allows a driver to access their device only through voice controls or larger buttons on the car's touch screen, distraction could be reduced.

We look forward to taking Qi for a spin.
