iPhone 6 release date, news and rumours

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 5, the reaction was a bit muted: where previous phones were massive leaps forward, the iPhone 5 was a bit longer and a lot easier to scratch.

So what can we expect from the next iPhone; will it be the iPhone 6 or seemingly closer 5S or even 5C? Let's see what we can glean from the varying sources of the internet - some reliable, some not so much.

Given the iPhone's history - from the 3G onwards, there's always been a half-step S model before the next numbered iPhone - we'd bet on an iPhone 5S first and an iPhone 6 a while later.

One thing is for sure, with the release of such super handsets as the Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and HTC One, the next iPhone will have to seriously up its game.
iPhone 6 release date

The iPhone 6 release date will be in 2014. It will follow the iPhone 5S which will be released this year, almost certainly in September.

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek concurs, saying that we'll see an iPhone 5S first, with a June 2014 release for the iPhone 6. Citi's Glen Yeung also believes that we won't see an iPhone 6 or cheap iPhoneuntil 2014.

In May US carrier Verizon introduced an iPhone 5 price cut of as much as $100 USD and further price cuts have followed.

Reports in April also suggested that Foxconn has added as many as 10,000 assembly line workers per week to its Zhengzhou plant as it readies itself for the new iPhone release date.

Interestingly, in May 2013 Stuff reported it received a photo of the till system at a Vodafone UK store (which it has since removed along with the reference to Vodafone), with '4G iPhone 6' listed. Interesting.

Could we see both an iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 in quick succession? Some reports suggest a new 5S in the late part of the year before a revamped iPhone 6 very early in 2014.

iPhone 5SApple may have a new roadmap, with new phones every spring and autumn

iPhone 6 casing

It's been suggested that there could even be three size variants of the new iPhone - check out thesemocked up images by artist Peter Zigich. He calls the handsets iPhone 6 Mini, iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 XL. However, as ZDNet rightly points out, different size variants aren't exactly easy to just magic out of thin air.

Multiple rumours say Apple's working on plastic cases for its next iPhone, mixing plastic and metal in such a way that "the internal metal parts [are] able to be seen from outside through special design." Could these images from Apple.pro be a new iPhone 6 complete with plastic casing? The cynic inside us says no, but you never know...

It's unclear whether such cases would be for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, or if Apple is simply considering making cheaper iPhone 4s to sell when the iPhone 3GS reaches the end of its life.

Speaking in March 2013, a KGI analyst said it believed Apple would turn to manufacturer Pegatron to make up to 75 per cent of low cost iPhone products. Indeed, rumours in early June 2013 pointed at a $399 price point for the cheap iPhone 6. We've also seen further supposedly leaked images of an all-white, plastic handset, but we're really not sure of the provenance.

iPhone 5SPretty, yes, but also horrifically scratch-prone. Will your next iPhone have a plastic back?

The iPhone 6 will finally do NFC

That's what iDownloadblog reckons, quoting Jefferies analyst Peter Misek: it'll have a better battery too, he says. Many Android phones now boast NFC.

PayPal's chief information security officer, Michael Barrett said this during a recent keynote speech: "There is going to be a fingerprint enabled phone on the market later this year," he said. "Not just one, multiple."
Could this be inside the iPhone 6?

See our video below on what Apple needs to do to slay Samsung's Galaxy S4
The iPhone 6 will run iOS 7

iOS 7 has been announced at WWDC 2013. It's a radical overhaul of the OS, especially in terms of the design which has fundamentally changed and is far flatter and more Android-like. There are rounded icons, striking colours and a stark font. There are new features, of course, such as Control Center, AirDrop and iTunes Radio.

We're expecting a September or October release date for iOS 7 in line with previous releases.

IOS 7 iOS 7: what do you think?

iPhone 6 storage

We've already seen a 128GB iPad, so why not a 128GB iPhone 6? Yes, it'll cost a fortune, but high-spending early adopters love this stuff.
iPhone 6 home button

According to Business Insider, of the many iPhone 6 prototypes Apple has made, one has a giant Retina+ IGZO display and a "new form factor with no home button. Gesture control is also possibly included" - more on that shortly. Mind you, it was mooted that Apple would dump the home button in time for iPhone 5, but it never happened.
iPhone 6 screen

The Retina+ Sharp IGZO display, would have a 1080p Full HD resolution. It's also been widely reported that Apple could introduce two handset sizes as it seeks to compete with the plethora of Android devices now on the market.

Take this one with a pinch of salt, because China Times isn't always right: it reckons the codename iPhone Math, which may be a mistranslation of iPhone+, will have a 4.8-inch display. The same report suggests that Apple will release multiple handsets throughout the year over and above the iPhone 5S and 6, which seems a bit far-fetched to us.

Patents show that Apple has been thinking about magical morphing technology that can hide sensors and even cameras. Will it make it into the iPhone 6? Probably not.

Could the touch screen even be transparent? Emirates 24/7 sin't the first source we'd turn to for bone fide rumours about a new smartphone, but it claims that an ultra-sensitive transparent touchscreen will make it into iPhone 6. The site also believes the display will be made by Sharp, which wouldn't be so surprising. One thing's for sure - a potential wraparound screen is probably a pipedream.

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek also says he believes the new iPhone will have a bigger screen. Different sizes also seem rather likely to us - the word on the street after WWDC 2013 was that there would be 4.7 and 5.7-inch versions.

iPhone 6 cameraYou'll probably still be able to see the camera lens in the iPhone 6

iPhone 6 processor

Not a huge surprise, this one: the current processor is a dual-core A6, and the next one will be a quad-core A7. The big sell here is more power with better efficiency, which should help battery life.

Expect to see it in the 2013 iPad first, and expect to see an improved A6 processor, the A6X, in the iPhone 5S.
iPhone 6 camera

Apple's bought camera sensors from Sony before, and this year we're going to see a new, 13-megapixel sensor that takes up less room without compromising image quality.

An Apple patent, uncovered by Apple Insider in May 2013, shows a system where an iPhone can remotely control other illuminating devices - extra flashes. It would work in a similar manner to that seen in professional photography studios. Interesting stuff.

Say Cheese to the iPhone 6Will the iPhone 6 be handy for pro photographers? [Image credit: Apple Insider]

iPhone 6 eye tracking

One thing seems certain - Apple can't ignore the massive movement towards eye-tracking tech from other vendors, especially Samsung. It seems a shoe-in that Apple will deliver some kind of motion tech within the next iPhone, probably from uMoove.
iPhone 6 fingerprint sensor

Could the iPhone 6 also have a fingerprint scanner. It's been rumoured for a while now. As BGR reports, this could be embedded in the display. It cites a patent filed by Apple in mid July 2013. A new version of the iOS 7 beta was released in late July and it included a new folder named"BiometricKitUI." Could this be the link to the new sensor in the OS?
The new iPhone will have better 4G LTE

On its UK launch, just one UK network had 4G LTE: Everything Everywhere, which currently offers 4G on the 1800MHz band. In 2013, all the other big names will be coming on board, offering 4G in other frequency bands. International iPhones already work across different 4G bands to the UK, so you can expect the UK iPhone 6 (and possibly the iPhone 5S) to be more promiscuous than the iPhone 5.

By the time the iPhone 6 emerges, iOS devices should also have "nonclassified communication approval" status from the US FCC, which means they won't need to go through a lengthy approval process.
iPhone 6 Wi-Fi may be 802.11ac

Apple likes to lead Wi-Fi standards adoption - its Airport really helped make Wi-Fi mainstream - and there's a good chance we'll see ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi in Apple kit this year. It's faster than Lighting, and not very frightening.
iPhone 6 wireless charging

Wireless charging still isn't mainstream. Could Apple help give it a push? CP Tech reports that Apple has filed a patent for efficient wireless charging, but then again Apple has filed patents for pretty much anything imaginable.

The tasty bit of this particular patent is that Apple's tech wouldn't just charge one device, but multiple ones. Here are more details on the iPhone 6 wireless charging patent.

Meanwhile, a further Apple patent seems to imply that future iPhones will be able to adjust volume as you move them away from your ear.

Buy Gold, Sell Oil

The gold price has finally begun rising again in terms of the oil price...

AS WE EXPECTED, the "gold-to-oil" ratio is working in gold's favor right now, with the gold price rising in terms of crude, says Steve Sjuggerud's Daily Wealth email.

Back on July 26, we noted how the "gold-to-oil" ratio was ready to snap back. At the time, we reminded readers how this kind of "ratio trade" isn't a conventional "buy a stock and hope it goes up" trade.

"Ratio trades" – like measuring the price of gold in barrels of oil – involve trading one asset against another asset. For example, one of the most important ratios in this group is the "gold-to-oil" ratio.

Since they are both commodities that have intrinsic value, gold and oil can be affected by the same buying and selling pressure in the market. But their values can get out of whack.

When this happens, traders can step in to sell gold and buy oil... or buy gold and sell oil. The profit on these trades depends on how the two assets move against each other. We used this analysis to time – almost to the day – the epic 2008 bottom in crude oil.

From late 2012 through last month, the gold-to-oil ratio fell from 20 to 12. This means gold collapsed in value relative to oil, with one ounce buying only 12 barrels after buying twenty.

In our July note, we pointed out that this decline left gold and oil in an extreme position. Hedge funds also held extreme bearish bets on gold...and extreme bullish bets on oil...in the futures market. And as you can see from the chart above, our note was well-timed. The gold-to-oil ratio has bottomed, and just staged a short-term breakout in gold's favor.

Samsung, LG Plan Anti-Theft Tool for Phones, Tablets

looking at installing a “kill switch” on mobile phones and tablets that would make the devices inoperable if they are stolen.

    Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone
    Bloomberg News

The function is designed to discourage phone theft by enabling a manufacturer and carrier to lock the smartphone or tablet even if a SIM card is replaced or the firmware is hacked.

South Korea’s Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said last week it is in talks with the two phone makers about introducing the function to new smartphones, likely from early next year, to curb rising phone theft.

Data from the National Policy Agency show the number of reported smartphone thefts rose 457% to 31,075 last year from 5,575 in 2009. The Korea Customs Service also blocked attempts to smuggle 1,887 smartphones out of the country last year, more than 10 times the 2010 tally of 131 phones.

The government said stolen smartphones are mostly being smuggled overseas because they can’t be registered with domestic carriers once they are reported stolen. It said the kill switch is currently the most effective technology to deter phone theft because the function is planted on the operating system or firmware and can’t be deleted.

Users will have to register their devices for the kill switch to work.

“Consumers should remain cautious and take phone safety measures by themselves, noting that it is ultimately their responsibility to protect their phone,” Lee Dong-hyung, chief of the Telecommunications Policy Bureau at the ministry, said in a statement.

In February, South Korean phone maker Pantech introduced the kill switch function, “V-protection,” on its Vega No. 6, becoming the first Korean firm to do so. Its latest Vega LTE-A phone, available in the Korean market since last week, is fitted with yet another strengthened security feature: a fingerprint scanner. A user would need to match the scanned fingerprint to gain access to apps, messages or photos saved in “Secret Mode.”

Pantech spokesman Kim Moon-goo said many of its smartphone users don’t seem to be very aware of the function. “We hope the government will help improve the public awareness of the measure.”

Pressure on handset makers to step up efforts to prevent phone theft and possible leakage of personal information has been growing in the U.S. as well. In June, a group of U.S. prosecutors pushed global phone makers to adopt the kill switch function by 2014.

"..You have no business in Music" J Martins to Wizkid

J Martins on YoungVip Blog Lagos gave his humble opinion on    Wizkid calling a fan broke:

"I’m not taking any side, don’t mean no beef, no disrespect, and no hate but let the truth be told. I don’t believe because you feel you have a few change you didn’t have a few years ago and which you cannot guarantee having in a few years to come then you wake up and look at those people who have cheered you up, loved you, supported your music, bought your CD’s, prayed for you, just because you can lay your hands on some phone and you call them ‘poor’. Am not in and will never be in support of anyone who has such bad attitude.

“It needs to be corrected, we owe our fans the duty of being good examples that’s why they hold us in high esteem, that’s why you are a role model and if you know you cannot be a good role model you have no business in Music. You don’t know if it’s that person that might help you tomorrow, whoever does that should be checked. You have to decide why you are in the music industry. If you know you cannot be a role model then you have no business being there”

BN Beauty: What You Need to Know About BB & CC Creams

Just like fashion, the world of beauty grows everyday. We have had so many new ideas and concepts from foundations that cover and treat blemishes on the face to a whole new way of drawing and filling eyebrows.

Last year and early this year we had a new innovations called BB & CC creams. Now, I know some of you may be rolling your eyes this moment but I have come to realize that being in-the-know when it comes to beauty can save you a whole lot of stress. Apparently Blemish Balm Creams/ Blemish Base (BB creams) are great multi-taskers. They literally take over the job of your moisturizer, primer, foundation and sun block.

CC creams, on the other hand, are more or less a modified version of the BB cream. It has a lot of names but the most popular names are Colour Control & Colour Correcting cream. They incorporates all the ingredients and effects of the BB cream + nourishing ingredients and the aim to give you a more even skin coverage.

Thinking to myself, anything that is rumored to work that well has got to have some quirks. So, I called up one of my very good friends – the internet – and went in search of all the facts about BB & CC creams.

Check out what I discovered.

BB Creams

BB creams were first created in Germany by a doctor called Christine Shrammek as protection for her patients skin post-surgery.
After its inception, its popularity grew to the North Korean region where actresses swore by its beautifying qualities. From there, it spread to the western areas.
If you are buying a BB cream, make sure it is mineral based. This makes the cream a lot more gentle on the skin.
Different BB creams apply to different age groups. Women in their mid 20s – 30s should go for BB creams that are thinner and have a light consistency. They absorb better into young and firm skin and can be worn alone or under a powder. Women in their 40s and above should go for BB creams that have anti-ageing properties, sunscreen protection and Vitamin C. This thicker formulas will help reduce the look of pore size, fine lines/ wrinkles and pigmentation.
Not all BB creams give full coverage or a glow. Whatever you are looking for, be sure to cross check the pack to determine what you require and what is being offered by the brand you want to buy.
Weather still affects what type of BB cream you use. For cold weather it is best to use added moisturizer if you notice your BB cream isn’t supplying enough. In hot weather a matte BB cream would serve you better.
BB creams come in limited shades. They usually adapt to most skin tones and not all of them. If you discover your skin tone is out of the skin tone range, then perhaps you should stick to your regular foundation and add a light moisturizer base to keep up with your needs.
BB creams are not highly recommended for people with oily skin, but if you do need to use one be sure it is oil free. You could also decide to use the BB cream alone without any added coverage.
You can mix your BB cream with other beauty products like moisturizers, foundations etc. Just be sure to take your skin and its needs into consideration.
CC Creams

They’re lighter than BB creams and are aimed at evening out skin tones, lightening redness on the face and illuminating the complexion. They are best for people with lighter skin tones.
Because of the sheer base, if you have slight uneven tones it is better to use a CC cream. It provides a light cover that evens out your skin.
CC creams usually aren’t as thick or oily as BB creams. So if you need a light cover or have oily skin and don’t want the thick consistency of the BB cream, the CC cream might be better for you.
BB creams often give an oily & ashy finish especially with dark skin tones while CC creams give you a more matte finish.
Based on some studies like the British Journal of Dermatology, consistent use of CC creams can correct skin discoloration within 6-8 weeks.

Apple’s Two New iPhones: The iPhone 5S And The iPhone 5C

According to the tech rumor mill, September 10th will see the launch of two new iPhones – the 5S and the 5C. New iPhones for certain people are an exciting event (anyone for queuing outside the Apple store for 5 days?), but this launch is particularly significant as the 5C is going to be a budget version of the iPhone, which is a significant change to Apple’s strategy.
Firstly, what about the 5S – well, it will be similar to a 5, but with a faster processor, an improved camera (apparently 12 megapixel) and fingerprint recognition which I think it is quite a cool feature, although it didn’t catch on with laptops. But I think the 5C is the more interesting proposition.
The iPhone is a very popular device, but Apple has been losing market share to Android devices particularly Samsung devices. The 5C is designed to try to take some share away from Samsung by positioning their phone at a cheaper price point.
Previously, Apple has relied on frequently releasing new models and being able to sell the older models off at a cheaper price. But this tactic has not been working of late – it seems that consumers want the new phone but without the hefty Apple price tag.
Apparently the ‘C’ in 5C stands for colour (no, not cheap!) – initial colours are said to be blue, red, yellow and green and should give the 5C a more funky and young feel. However, if you are a lawyer for Apple I have good news. These colours are the same as those of the Google logo, so expect another protracted legal battle between the two tech foes. It is also likely to have more of a plastic feel than the 5 or 5S.
I think this is a significant change in strategy for Apple. It has struggled to gain penetration in the emerging markets, but it still a desirable brand. The challenge for Apple now will shift. If it is able to price the 5C to compete with Samsung, the question for consumers is whether they prefer the iOS or Android operating systems. And this makes the release of iOS7 even more important for Apple’s growth.

It’s Phyno! Check Out the Nigerian Hip Hop Star on the Cover of MyStreetz Magazine’s August 2013 Issue

In the new issue of the Nigerian Hip-Hop-centric monthly, Mystreetz Magazine, the indigenous Igbo rapper, Phyno takes the cover looking fresh in his signature mohawk. The rapper who has gone from minor hits “Multiply” to major hits “Man of The Year” and “Ghost Mode”, has broken some language barriers for Hip-Hop in Nigeria and talks about his ‘grass to grace’ story in the new issue.

What do you think about the cover?

Here’s what Sesan Adeniji, publisher of Mystreetz Magazine, had to say about their new issue:

“About a decade ago, I attended an emergency music meeting with some of the most respectable veterans and spokesmen of the Nigerian music industry. They were concerned about the infiltrated sound called Hip-Hop/ Rap music. At the end of this meeting, these veterans concluded that this genre was never going to stand the test of time and they were right as of that moment, because Rap music had not found elements to connect with the local music lovers all around Nigeria but they were also wrong because the most constant thing in life is change; most importantly, if it driven by a young generation who are as relevant as those of the Arab spring.

“As Rap music continued its search for a wide acceptance from the non conformist generation to the pidgin English era, the influence of those that defiled the odds to infuse the Nigerian Northern, Western, Eastern/southern language into the Hip/hop and Rap music genre seem to be the reason why Rap may have succeeded all around the nation. With the success of Olamide, the final victory for Rap music might be the PHYNO THESIS. Has Rap music finally pulled down the walls of language barrier?”

Celebrity Stylist/Fashion Designer Toyin Lawani shares Intimate Photo of her Bare Baby Bump

Toyin Lawani is loving life as a pregnant woman.

Today the 31 year old celebrity stylist/fashion designer shared an intimate photo of her baby bump through her 21 year old fiancé Triggakess‘ Instagram page.

The couple who announced the engagement in June, have been very open about their forthcoming bundle of joy via social media. (Hey, not that we are complaining)
In the photo, we can see a shot of her recording artiste beau kissing her bare bump. The happy father-to-be hinted that the baby could be a boy. “Waddup Son?” he captioned the photo.

We are guessing he’s hoping for a boy, because a baby’s sex is determined via ultra sound during mid pregnancy (16-20 weeks) and Toyin is just a few weeks gone.

Toyin joins the likes of international stars Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Tia Mowry and Shakira, who have all shared their baby bump shots.

If you missed the feature in January 2013, check out the BN article on stars who have displayed their baby bumps

Coming Soon: The Slicker, Faster and – Maybe – Cheaper iPhone

Excitement over the new iPhone is building to a frenzy this week as rumors abound that Apple (AAPL) will unveil upgraded models on September 10.That would be almost exactly a year after Apple introduced the iPhone 5, which grabbed the title of best selling smart phone model in the world last year.Apple isn’t commenting on new models yet but the September 10 introduction date has been confirmed by major news organizations including the Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD and dedicated Apple bloggers such as Jim Dalrymple.
The rumored new handset, expected to be called the iPhone 5S, will probably look quite similar to the current model 5 but is sure to be lighter and more powerful than ever. It may also be accompanied by a lower-priced, plastic-cased model, dubbed the iPhone “5C” on the Internet.

Pictures leaked onto the Web of the purported lower-priced iPhone show an array of bright colors instead of just the same old black and white models available in recent years. That would make 2013 a banner year for colorful phones, as the new Google (GOOG) Moto X phone arriving in stores in a few weeks is being offered in 18 colors.
A rising share price
And it's not just customers who are excited about a new iPhone. Investors have been driving up Apple's share price — even before billionaire hedge fund manager Carl Icahn tweeted this week that he had bought a large position. After lagging the market for most of the year, Apple shares have gained 17% over the past month.
Apple remains a top player at the high end of the smartphone market, especially in the United States, where most carriers subsidize more than two-thirds of the cost of a new phone for customers who sign a two-year contract.
The lower-priced phone would help Apple better compete for customers who pay month to month and those who live in less-wealthy countries where carriers don’t offer subsidies. Apple currently offers older models, such as the 2010 iPhone 4, to those customers. But the older phone still costs $450 without a subsidy and may lack the appeal of more recent models running Google’s Android software.
“They’ve been wickedly profitable but their market share is kind of plateauing,” says Ramon Llamas, mobile research manager at IDC. Apple captured 18% of the smartphone market in 2011 and 2012, according to IDC. “A little more attention to emerging markets is warranted.”
Competitors with $200 to $300 phones have been growing faster than Apple in many less-wealthy markets, according to data from Gartner. Apple sold 31.9 million phones worldwide in the second quarter, up just 10% from a year earlier, Gartner reported, second to Samsung. But Apple’s next three competitors – LG Electronics (066570.KS), Lenovo Group (0992.HK) and ZTE (0763.HK) – sold almost as many, 31.8 million combined, as their sales jumped 93%.
Still, Llamas isn’t sure a new lower-priced phone is needed. Lower pricing and greater promotions of older models could work just as well, he argues.
Could the cheap phone move backfire?
And Apple’s rumored move to offer lower-priced new iPhones could backfire. Some analysts fear that a portion of wealthy customers will forgo buying more-expensive models in favor of the “5C.” That could cut into Apple’s revenue and profits. The move could also tarnish Apple’s reputation as a leading premium phone maker, particularly if the lower-priced model is seen as chintzy or with key functions crippled.
But if Apple announces a lower-priced model, it is more likely to create a desirable, full-featured product in keeping with the company’s premium image, according to John Gruber, who has followed Apple for over a decade at his website, DaringFireball.net.
“The 5C is not about selling a piece of junk to some sort of unwashed masses,” Gruber wrote on Tuesday. “It’s about continuing to push the price down to expand the iPhone’s market without changing what the iPhone brand stands for.”
At the high end
Following a pattern Apple has established over several years, the new high-end iPhone is likely to retain the outward appearance of the current iPhone 5. Apple tends to produce a major iPhone overhaul only every other year, in keeping with the two-year contract cycle of many mobile phone subscribers. And pictures floating on the Internet show a rumored new iPhone with a similar shape and upgraded internal components to the current model.

But many analysts expect Apple may incorporate a brand-new feature this year – a fingerprint reader hidden in the iPhone’s tiny home button. Apple bought mobile security firm AuthenTec and its fingerprint-scanning technology last year for $356 million. And text contained in beta versions of Apple’s new iOS 7 software appears to reference a finger print sensor, too.
“It’s a great way to ease the hassle of remembering passwords,” says Ken Hyers, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics. “It will be much more reliable than the facial-recognition technology that Samsung first introduced with the Galaxy S3, and easier to use, too.”
Combined with several wireless technologies already in the iPhone, the fingerprint scanner could also be part of a new mobile-payments network from Apple. That would be quite different from Google’s Google Wallet payment system, which relies on phones that have specialized hardware, known as a Near Field Communications, or NFC, chip. U.S. mobile carriers have blocked Google Wallet apps and are planning to roll out their own NFC-based payment network known as Isis. But neither has caught on yet.
Apple’s system, relying on Bluetooth and Wifi standards, could ignore the NFC wars and build off its existing iOS app called Passbook, which currently works for items like travel and entertainment tickets. Apple mobile development chief Craig Federighi made fun of Android's NFC-based file transfer system at the company's developer conference in June. "There's no need to wander around the room bumping your phone," he said, referencing the system featured prominently in Samsung television ads.
Apple fans hoping for a bigger screen are likely to be disappointed. Android phones have featured ever larger screens – the new LG G2 model unveiled August 7 has a 5.2” screen, one of the biggest yet. Google's Moto X phone has a 4.7" screen.
But Apple is trying to avoid further fragmenting its lineup in order to make it easier for developers to write apps that will look good and run smoothly on all iOS hardware. Analysts expect Apple will stick with the 4” screen introduced on last year's iPhone 5. The screen was slightly longer than earlier models but maintained the same width, so apps that weren’t updated for the new size could just display a black bar over the extra space.
Some analysts say Apple needs to move to bigger screens to better compete against Android. That probably won't happen until the company's 2014 upgrade cycle.
“It’s just like in the movie 'Jaws' – what we need is a bigger boat,” says Roger Entner, founder of Recon Analytics. “If you’re going to charge a premium and seek to delight your customers, you have to be leading, not following, the trend.”

Things To Consider Before Buying A New Laptop

Years ago, it’s a privilege to use a Personal Computer (PC) but today, it’s becoming out dated. However, in a search for up to date systems, even Laptops, what are the factors to consider? Michael Oche guides buyers on things to look out for in purchsing new Laptops

Buying a new laptop computer can be both frustrating and expensive. Technology is growing with times, a sign of transformation. Same can be in computer world, previously we used to be happy with PC but now the whole criteria are changed as people are upgrading themselves for using Laptops. Recent years showed advancement in Laptops and the reason behind increased purchasing trends is its portability which makes it easy to use and moving from one place to another without applying efforts. So people prefer the use of Laptops over Personal Computers because of several reasons including upcoming technology, portability, etc. But, often we get baffled when it comes to purchasing new Laptops.

Often, we are deceived by purchasing the system which is not self-reliable to use. So, before buying a new Laptop, it’s much recommended to consider the points below.

1. Specifications:

This is the initiative point one should keep in mind before buying a new Laptop. Technical specifications include system’s hardware and software ingredients which is the basic things. One should check out the RAM capacity, Hard Disk, Processor, Video Card, etc which ascertain a Laptop’s reliability or otherwise. If its capacity is low, then you will obviously suffer fluctuations like frequent hanging up of system and so on. So, it’s recommended to go with such master piece which is derived with at least 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Disk, Dual Core i5 processor including one Graphic Card. So, before purchasing any Laptop, put this into consideration.

2. Structure and Durability:

The next priority to keep in mind is Laptop’s structure which includes size, durability, weight and so on. The main purpose for selecting net book is its portability and if the size for same is lumpy, then there’s no catch. So you should see whether the device is handy or not. You should also think of its weight; normally, a system weighing about two kilogrammes is pretty to determine the reliability and portability.

These two factors even determine the durability of system. Users with harsh working tendency always need that device to endure surprising shocks. So, the laptop must have extra tough metal covered, to ensure no internal damages are done to the hard disk, processor, etc. Thus, if you are completely satisfied with the structure of a Laptop, then go for it.

3. Battery Life:

The Battery Life is directly or indirectly the first need of any user. If the device’s battery system is of poor quality, then one will face many inevitable problems. The very first thing to do as a customer is, first ask about the Laptop’s battery life. So one should check and enquire about maximum support the Laptop’s battery will give. Standard need is 10 hours or as per usage.

4. Price and Budget:

Every person has its own budget, and one should buy Laptops bearing same in mind. For instance, if your budget is 25, 000 and you are dreaming of a device which costs 50, 000, this is calling for avoidable debts. So, in such case, you should concentrate on main functions needed for your use. In cheap price you can’t enjoy latest technology but can surely seek out functions which are basic and required one.

5. Other Specifications:

Other things include connectivity, user guide, display resolution, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB ports, etc. These are the required specifications which users should keep in mind before purchasing Laptops.

Laptop vs tablet: which is best for a small business?

Sales of desktop and notebook PCs have continued to fall. In its last survey on the market Gartner put the figure at just over 10% for the first quarter of this year. The reason? The expanding use of tablet PCs.
As Mikako Kitagawa, Principal Analyst at Gartner, explains: "We are seeing the PC market reduction directly tied to the shrinking installed base of PCs, as inexpensive tablets displace the low-end machines used primarily for consumption in mature and developed markets.
"In emerging markets, inexpensive tablets have become the first computing device for many people, who at best are deferring the purchase of a PC. This is also accounting for the collapse of the mini notebook market."
Businesses approaching their replacement cycle for aging desktop and notebook PCs are asking whether they can move to tablet devices. With the trend towards 'bring your own device' taking hold, employees increasingly want to use their own personal tablets and smartphones.
Small business owners clearly have a decision to make, but need to take care, as the IT in use must be integrated to provide the most efficiency.
The market at the moment has divided into a number of categories including traditional notebook PCs, the new range of ultrabooks, tablet PCs and hybrid notebook/tablets that attempt to offer the best of both worlds.
With so much choice it's important to clearly understand how the portable technology in your business is currently used and, more importantly, how this will change in the future.
Your checklist

Often, tablet PCs and notebooks are not mutually exclusive, but offer complementary devices that can be used for specific purposes. Attempting to configure a tablet PC like a notebook computer will ultimately deliver a disappointing experience.
A better approach is to ask how each device can be used efficiently with its own specific strengths. It's worth taking a number of issues into consideration.
One is whether a touch interface is appropriate for the applications in use. As tablets have a heritage in the consumer market where there is a greater emphasis on consuming rather than creating content, some applications – such as spreadsheets – don't lend themselves to touch interfaces.
Second is that tablets can be expensive when compared to a notebook PC. Can you justify the cost?
As notebooks have developed their price has tumbled, and fully featured notebook PCs come at a significantly lower cost than some tablet PCs. Look at the business case for buying tablet PCs over notebooks. Is this justified?
Integration question

Next is to ask whether your business can integrate what multiple operating systems into the IT systems it currently uses?
As tablets use operating systems designed for mobile devices, these have to be maintained, supported and integrated into your businesses other IT systems. Carefully assess the impact tablet PCs could have before moving to these platforms.
Then ask if the storage capacity of the mobile devices you are looking at is adequate for your business's needs? Tablet PCs cannot compete if you need masses of storage capacity on the devices needed to run your business.
It's also worth considering the new breed of Ultrabooks?
A new category of ultra thin and light notebook PCs has been developing over the past couple of years. They are lightweight, have a compact design, a full keyboard and the other features you'd expect on a notebook.
Costs are still quite high, but Ultrabooks offer a halfway house between traditional notebook PCs and tablets.
Screen size

Also ask if you need larger screens. In the past, laptops were often used as desktop PC replacements, as they typically had 17-inch screens. Tablet PCs have much smaller screens, which could be an issue when running some applications.
You should also think about the ergonomics of the technology in your business.
Desktop PCs have the best ergonomics, as they can be configured for user comfort. Notebook PCs are not as good because they have smaller keyboards. Tablet PCs have on-screen keyboards which are smaller still.
Ergonomics is no joke as last year 141,000 cases of musculoskeletal disorders were reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
Finally, it's possible that a hybrid laptop/tablet could provide a compromise.
Pioneered by the Asus Transformer range, these notebook PCs have a detachable screen and run the tablet version of Windows (Surface). The compromise is in screen size, which is typically 10-12 inches.
It's likely that in future the market will be dominated by tablet PCs with hybrid devices following closely. Tablet PCs are developing at such a pace that they will soon have similar features to their notebook cousins.
However, their ergonomics still makes them a poor choice in some business scenarios in which a notebook PC or even a desktop would be more appropriate. It's critical to avoid being blinded by the bright light of tablet PC development and think through your business's IT needs before making your buying decision.
Decided which one will be best for you? Now check out our round-ups of the top 10 laptops and best tablets for business.

Rodgers wants to put Suarez saga to bed

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday that he will not talk about Luis Suarez until the unsettled striker is available to play after weeks of speculation about his future.
Arsenal have had two transfer bids for the Uruguay international rejected and Suarez has been forced to train on his own by Rodgers after he went public about his desire to leave.
Liverpool’s principal owner John W Henry has declared that Suarez will not be allowed to leave the club, while captain Steven Gerrard has urged him to stay.
Suarez will miss the first six games of the new season as he completes a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in April, and Rodgers says he does not want to discuss the 26-year-old until he returns at the end of September.
“From our perspective, there is a standpoint from the club and myself that has not changed,” said Rodgers.
“What I want to concentrate on is the players that are available for this weekend so I won’t be speaking any more about Luis Suarez until he is available.
“My only concentration is the players who are available and, from the first day they came back, they’ve had a real hard pre-season.
“Purely out of respect to them and the work which has been going on, I only want to talk about them.”
Liverpool open their 2013-14 Premier League campaign at home to Stoke City on Saturday.AFP

Dr Danjuma Dadu, Managing Director of the corporation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos that the films would be tailored to promote Nigerian culture and traditions.

“We in the corporation will not accept this exploitation and will soon start screening all films before they are marketed.
“Only films that meet the standards set by the corporation will be allowed in the market.

Oil majors complain of risky, deteriorating environment

The operating environment in Nigeria is deteriorating on a daily basis and poses a serious risk for companies in the oil and gas sector, according to, Royal Dutch Shell and Italy’s Eni.
This was contained in the second quarter 2013 financial summary of both oil majors.
A couple of days ago, Shell had declared that challenges in Nigeria eroded its profit for second quarter 2013 by $250 million (N40 billion). The challenges according to the company, was brought about by incessant crude theft and pipeline vandalisation.
Eni, in its interim update and second quarter results, said it lost about 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the first half of 2013. Using an average crude oil price of $102.62 per barrel, this translates to a loss of $3.08 million (N492.8 million) per day; $92.36 million (N14.77 billion) per month and $554.15 million (N88.7 billion) for the six months period.
The company said the loss was as a result of bunkering activities, sabotage of oil facilities and flooding in Nigeria.
It however stated that excluding the impact in Nigeria and Libya, it expected its Exploration and Production output to grow by more than three per cent for the rest of 2013. According to the company, performance in the second quarter 2013 was affected by force majeure events in Nigeria, and in Libya.
Similarly, Shell said its production volumes were significantly impacted by the deteriorating operating environment in Nigeria.
According to the company, the deteriorating operating environment in Nigeria impacted production volumes by some 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the second quarter 2013, and by 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day compared to second quarter 2012. The company said, “During the first half year 2013 the operating environment in Nigeria deteriorated substantially. An erosion of the business and operating environment in Nigeria is expected to adversely impact Shell’s earnings and cash flow from operations.
“Other than the deteriorating operating environment in Nigeria, there are no material changes in our Risk Factors for the remaining six months of the financial year.”

RIM SET TO LAUNCH BLACKBERRY Q30 AND Z15 [SEE PICS]

BlackBerry OS 10 is still struggling to make a serious impact, but a couple of new devices might be just what the doctor prescribed to get things right. We just got to see renders of the BlackBerry Q30 and BlackBerry Z15, which will allegedly be joining the company's portfolio in the near future.

The BlackBerry Q30 isn't actually a new smartphone - we've seen it before under the codename BlackBerry A10. The info about the name change comes from a leaked official tutorial, so it's a pretty certain detail.

As you might remember, the BlackBerry Z30/A10 is expected to feature a 5" OLED screen of 720p resolution and a Qualcomm chipset, consisting of two 1.7GHz Krait cores, a quad-core Adreno GPU and 2GB of RAM.

Moving on to the BlackBerry Z15, you have to keep your salt shakers at a hands distance. This one is far from being certain to exist and the rendered images themselves don't seem too trustworthy either. Anyway, the source points to this as the first slider in the BlackBerry 10 family.
